Construction work will soon commence on a market with a storage facility being funded by the Member of Parliament for Upper Manya Krobo, Bismark Tetteh Nyarko, for producers of processed cassava (gari) in the area.
Sekesua and its surrounding communities are one of the major producers of gari in the Eastern Region.
Tons of gari and cassava dough are produced yearly however the producers do not have market sheds and storage facilities.
This problem which has existed for decades has been a bane to the business which is the source of livelihood for thousands of poor households.
The MP, Bismark Tetteh Nyarko, as part of his economic empowerment intervention, has awarded the construction market sheds with storage facilities for the gari and cassava dough producers.
The project will be funded by the MP’s share of the District Assembly common fund.
The Upper Manya Constituency Chairman of the NDC, Alhaji Moro Yakubu Hankuri, has on behalf of the MP handed over the site to the contractor for work to begin.
Alhaji Moro Yakubu Hankuri assured the traders that the project will commence soon to provide great relief and boost their business.
Meanwhile, gari producers in the Sekesua area have expressed their disappointment in the Akufo Addo-Bawumia-led NPP government, for its failure to fulfill the promise to establish a cassava factory in the area.
A signpost erected at the site earmarked for the project has rusted and collapsed without a single block laid as weeds and reptiles have taken over the site.
