The Municipal Chief Executive for Bawku Municipality in the Upper East Region, Hon Amadu Hamza has urged religious groups to create a harmonious atmosphere to sustain peace in Bawku and its environment.
Hon Hamza called religious bodies to pray for divine intervention as the security services play their part in the region.
Speaking in an interview, the Bawku MCE said that the recent conflict in Bawku is very worrying, adding that Mallams and Pastors in Bawku should continue praying for lasting peace in Bawku.
“And when there is lasting peace, we will have people going about doing their normal businesses. The women and our fathers in the market selling to get their daily bread, will be able to take care of their wards in schools,’’ he added.
Hon Hamza disclosed that hospitals are not functioning as a result of the misunderstanding hence when there is peace, hospitals will continue to function.
Meanwhile, the police have confirmed the killing of an 81-year-old man in a recent gun attack.
The Divisional Police Commander, Superintendent Simon Akabati said 18 people have been arrested and they will be put before court
