The Children of the late Prince Yao Boateng have sued the New Juaben Traditional Council and Omanhene Daasebre Prof. Emeritus Oti Boateng for demolishing the bust of the late Prince Emmanuel Yao Boateng erected in Koforidua.
Hearing of the civil suit case will start next Wednesday, May 12,202 if the day is not declared a public holiday.
The family of the late Prince Emmanuel Yao Boateng issued a two-week ultimatum to the Omanhene of New Juaben Traditional Council Daasebre Prof. Emeritus Oti Boateng to replace the statue of the late Prince Emmanuel Yao Boateng illegally demolished by the council.
The family served notice that it will not hesitate to take legal action against the traditional Council if it failed to replace the statute.
The New Juaben Traditional Council on March 5, 2021, pulled down the bust of the late Prince Emmanuel Yao Boateng erected in a popular area in Koforidua called Prince Boateng roundabout named after the late Prince (Oheneba).
The traditional council described the bust as an “offensive and dirty trick” on the history of New Juaben.
The traditional Council also stated that the bust was erected by children of the late Oheneba Boateng without the authorization of Daasebre Prof. Emeritus Oti Boateng -Omanhene of New Juaben Traditional Council, describing the action by the family as gross disrespect to the Yiadom Hwedie stool.
The traditional council contended that the late Oheneba Yao Boateng was not a royal from the Yiadom Hwedie family but derived his status from the fact that his biological father was Nana Kwaku Boateng I, who reigned as Omanhene of New Juaben from 1913 to1930. Also did nothing tangible to merit such honor.
Responding to the allegations, the Children, Nephews, Nieces, and grandchildren of the late Prince Emmanuel Yao Boateng through their solicitor – Osafo Adu Amankwah described as disingenuous to characterize their action as extremely self-serving and inward-looking decision to erect the bust because the entire process before the erection of the bust was subjected to lay down procedures and requisite legal regulations.
