Majority Leader and Minister for Parliamentary Affairs, Osei Kyei Mensah-Bonsu has revealed Parliament may call Chairperson of the Electoral Commission if there are any challenges with processes towards the upcoming elections.
Hon Osei Kyei Mensah said that Parliament is satisfied with the electoral arrangements by the Chairperson Jean Mensa.
“Parliament will invite the EC to brief the House on the development if it notes challenges with the electoral processes,’’ he added.
“The explanations that Jean Mensa offered was satisfactory to us, and we were able to report to the session but Parliament will invite her to be with us ahead December 7 polls,’’ said Hon Osei Kyei Mensah.
Meanwhile, the Minority in August demanded the summoning of officials of the Commission to respond to concerns about the electoral process, but the Suame MP said that is not immediately necessary.
In June 2020, the Electoral Commission appeared before the Special Budget Committee of Parliament to respond to questions relating to the compilation of a new register ahead of this year’s December 7 elections.
The Minority Leader, Haruna Iddrisu expressed his disappointment and serious concern that the EC Chairperson, Jean Mensa’s responses were unconvincing at the end of that meeting.
