The Central Regional Police Command has arrested a 42-year-old driver, Godwin Bayor alias Yaw for allegedly assaulting a woman alleged to be a commercial sex worker on March 6, 2022, at Cape Coast.
His arrest follows a Police investigation into a viral audio-visual tape intercepted in which a man was captured assaulting a lady in the night. The victim subsequently complained of assault at the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU), Cape Coast, today Sunday, March 13, 2022.
The suspect is currently in Police custody assisting the investigation.
We thank the public for their partnership with the Police in getting the suspect arrested to face justice.
Further details will be communicated by the Central Regional Police Command in due course.
The disgusting viral video which surfaced on social media suggested the driver of the state commercial vehicle refused to pay the woman after soliciting for sex.
The driver assaulted the victim, kicked her multiple times, and dragged her on the floors.
Commercial sex activity is illegal in Ghana. It is therefore not clear if the police will deal with both the suspect and the victim.
