The Eastern Regional Minister, Eric Kwakye Darfour has commissioned 100,000 capacity bags of fertilizer warehouses and an ultra-modern Battery Cage Poultry farm belonging to RansBoat and Company Limited at Kofisah, a community in the Nsawam Adoagyiri Municipality.
RansBoat and company Ltd, the beneficiary of government flagship program, Planting for Food and Jobs (PFJ) and Rearing for Food and Jobs (RFJ) is one of the key distributors of hybrid seeds and fertilizers in the country operating in four different regions, Ashanti, Bono East, Bono and now Eastern.
In his address, Hon. Darfour commended RansBoat for bringing some relief to farmers in the Kwahu Afram Plains when the company in partnership with YARA Ghana and RMG GHANA acquired a warehouse at Maame Krobo to distribute Agrochemicals, improved hybrid seeds, and fertilizers.
He, therefore, gave the assurance that the Regional Coordinating Council and for that matter the government would continue to support the company to flourish to ensure Sustainable growth in the Agriculture sector.
According to the management of the company, the poultry farm which started in 2018 with 5,000 birds has 62, 000 birds currently. He added that their projection of 100,000 birds by the end of the year 2020 would not able to be achieved because of the effects of COVID-19 hoping that their target would be realized by the second quarter of next.
They however appealed to the government to give them a tax-free holiday on the importation of poultry machinery to expand their capacity.
The Member of Parliament for Ayensuano, Samuel Aye Paye thanked the company for providing jobs for the youth in the area.
He however bemoaned the activities of illegal sand wining in the area which was affecting farmers and called on all stakeholders to help address the menace.
