The Eastern Regional Health Director Dr. Winfred Ofosu says as of last week, the region had no active case of COVID-19.
He said Covid-19 cases reduced drastically since the immunization started.
He, however, stated that some 7,039 COVID-19 cases were recorded in the region since 2020 which 148 including 6 health staff dying out of 1456 that were infected.
He said even though currently the region has zero cases, it is important for residents to get vaccinated to protect themselves from getting infected.
He said the relaxation of the Covid-19 restrictions should not be misconstrued that the virus does not exist anymore.
Dr. Winfred Ofosu said the immunization teams are going house to house, community to community to inoculate residents yet to take their jabs.
Meanwhile, the Ghana Health Service launched 2nd National Covid -19 Immunization Days Campaign in Somanya in the Eastern region last week targeted 2 million people to be vaccinated within the five days of the campaign.
Launching the campaign Thursday, April 21, 2022, the Director-General of Ghana Health Service, Dr. Patrick Kuma Aboagye said the second national vaccination campaign which commenced on Thursday 21st April will end Tuesday 25th April 2022.
He stated that the campaign will see the deployment of about 6000 vaccination teams across the country to employ different strategies including the use of traditional clinics, hospitals, and CHPs centers to reach the people.
He added that the vaccination teams are also expected to use outreach points, and mobile clinics to reach deprived areas.
Additionally, temporal posts will be created in the market, lorry parks, schools, churches, mosques, and stadia to vaccinate the people during the days.
18th April 2022, Ghana has received over 30 million doses of Covid-19 vaccines all distributed to the regions and districts nationwide.
He said about 14 million doses have been deployed and approximately 10 million persons have received a dose of COVID-19.
Dr. Patrick Kuma Aboagye said an effort is underway to achieve the target of 20 million vaccinations by June 2022 to facilitate the achievement of herd immunity.
The Director-General of GHS also outlined that apart from the ultra-low freezers provided by development partners for storage of the vaccines across the country, the government is pursuing walk-in cold rooms in all the regions and rehabilitating existing ones to maintain the safety of the vaccines.
Again he said “to ensure the vaccines remain safe Ghana has strengthened its robust vaccine safety monitoring system that is managed by the Food and Drugs authority with the support of the Ghana Health Service to ensure real-time data management service, the GHS had deployed a well-integrated information technology and data management system that ensure successful vaccine distribution tracking, monitoring and reporting in real-time”
The International partners including WHO, USAID, and World Bank said COVID-19 vaccines are safe and effective therefore Ghanaians should not listen to conspiracy theories doubting their efficacy and safety to humanity.
