Some market women at Amanase a farming community in the Ayensuano municipality of the Eastern region have lamented the deplorable state of their market is affecting their daily economic activities in the area.
The market women said, the inadequate market structure to accommodate the high number of traders in the market has therefore forced most of them to sit under the scorching sun to ply their trade every day while others also have resorted to renting or buying tents due to the impact of the sun and the rain.
The market women fear the onset of the rainy season will worsen their plight.
They also lamented about the bad state and the deteriorating nature of the existing lavatory used by the traders and sellers in the market saying sometimes they find it difficult to even breathe as a result of the bad stench which emanates from the toilet facility, hence they are appealing for the renovation its renovation.
On the other hand, the market women vehemently complained that the inaccessibility of electricity in the market has accounted for some of them losing their properties and their capital since the place has turned into a convenient hub for thieves and bad people at the night.
The market women said this during a routine visit by the DCE for Ayensuano Josephine Ansah Awuku Nkoom to lorry stations, markets, and other places in the Ayensuano district to find out the challenges confronting the people in the district.
However, the District Chief Executive for Ayensuano Hon. Josephine Ansah Awuku Nkoom said the assembly has taken note of the issues and the concerns of the market women with the hope that urgent measures will be put in place as soon as possible to address their concerns.
She, therefore, urged Ghanaians to contribute to the development of communities and the country as a whole by honoring their tax obligations so that the government also caters to the needs using these revenues generated from the taxes.
