The new Eastern Regional Minister, Hon. Seth Kwame Acheampong took office Tuesday March 16,2021 after a short handing over ceremony at the office of the Eastern Regional Coordinating Council (ERCC).
The Minister was sworn in by President of the Republic of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo last week after his confirmation by Parliament.
In a short statement, Hon Acheampong thanked the President for the trust and confidence reposed in him by appointing him to represent him at the Region. He expressed his deepest appreciation to the former Eastern Regional Minister, Hon Darfour for the warm reception accorded him.
Hon Acheampong gave the assurance that he would continue from where his predecessors left off. He therefore appealed to the Chief Director of ERCC Mr. Samuel Donkor, the MDCEs, and the entire staff who were present to extend the same cordial working relationship the have offered to his predecessor to him.
In a brief statement, the former Regional Minister, Hon. Eric Kwakye Darfour thanked the Municipal District Chief Executives, the Regional Security Council ( REGSEC) , Heads of various institutions and Agencies, Nananom, Clergy, the Media and the staff for their support and cooperation during his four year tenure as the head of the Region. He also called on all stakeholders to extend the same or even better cooperation to the new Minister who he described as his friend and younger brother.
The Dean of Municipal District Chief Executives, Hon Richmond Amponsah, speaking on behalf of his colleague thanked the former Regional Minister for the cordial working relationship and the fatherly love shown during his four year stay. He was therefore optimistic that the Honourable Acheampong would do even better.
Present at the short ceremony were the Regional First Vice Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Alhaji Omar Bodingo, Regional Organiser, Mr. Kwame Appiah Kodua, Chairman of New Juaben North constituency, Mr. Kwame Boateng and Deputy Nasara Coordinator, Adamu Musah Raha.
Daunting Task ahead .
The Minister has daunting tasks spanning from poor roads , huge gap in portable water coverage , stalled and yet to begin projects including the Eastern Regional Hospital.
High youth unemployment is another challenge the new Minister must tackle.
Without a deputy Minister, Hon Seth Acheampong is expected to be workaholic in other to meet exigencies that come with the job.
