A motorbike rider and his pillion rider are in critical condition after being crushed by a speeding vehicle on Somanya to Accra highways in the Eastern Region.
The victims – Samuel Bortey, 52, and his pillion rider Samuel Kumah, 23, were rushed to the Emergency Ward of the Atua Hospital.
Samuel Bortey died while being transferred to Korle Bu Teaching Hospital for advanced treatment.
Information gathered by mybrytfmonline.com indicates that an Environmental Health Superintendent stationed at Akosombo – Akuamoah Tony Yankey, 54, was driving a Nissan Pathfinder Vehicle with registration number GT8602-10 from Accra towards Akosombo at about 3:30 pm.
However, on reaching a section of the road near Trom junction on the Somanya to Accra motor road, he crashed into an unregistered motorcycle which suddenly entered the road from the near side.
The rider and the pillion rider sustained various degrees of injuries and were sent to Atua Government Hospital for medical treatment.
Police visited the scene of the accident and found an accident Nissan Pathfinder vehicle with registration number GT 8602-10 with a damaged unregistered Husky motorcycle stuck beneath it.
Police on inspection saw bloodstains at the resultant position of the motorcycle Important places at the scene were marked and pictures were taken to assist with the investigation.
Police continued to Atua Government Hospital and found the victims on admission at the Emergency Ward of the Hospital responding to treatment.
But Samuel Bortey was referred to Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital for intensive treatment but he died during the journey.
