The New Juaben North and Atiwa East constituency executives’ election of the ruling New Patriotic Party, NPP, in the Eastern region has been injuncted.
The injunctions were secured by some aggrieved members of the party from the Koforidua High Court has restrained the party from conducting the elections.
In New Juaben North Constituency, two members of the party -Godwin Osei Boateng and Bernard Amponsah are praying the Koforidua High Court to cancel the polling station executives and the electoral coordinator’s albums as compiled for the constituency executives’ election.
They also want the court to set aside the polling stations elections of the constituency conducted on February 27, 2022.
An order directed at the party to re-conduct fresh elections with clear timelines and modalities.
It is the considered view of the applicants that, the polling station election held in February was a charade and a facade therefore the polling station elections, upon which the register for the impending constituency executive election would be used is not a true reflection of the same was not produced as per the modalities set by the NPP National Executives and directed at all constituencies to abide with” excerpts of the writ of summons filed on April 27, 2022, read.
Meanwhile, a statement issued by the New Juaben North Constituency election committee on April 28, 2022, said the election has been postponed indefinitely.
“Kindly be informed the Constituency Election which was slated for Friday, 29th April 2022 has been postponed until further notice.
The postponement has been occasioned by the disagreement on the venue(s) and other related matters for the conduct of the election.
The statement further said “The CEC is in consultation and discussion with relevant stakeholders to agree on a venue for the election and after that, a new date and venue will be communicated as soon as possible.
We are sorry for the inconvenience caused and continue to pray for your support in making this election a peaceful one.
Meanwhile, an aggrieved member of the NPP in Atewa East has also placed an interlocutory injunction on the constitution election citing the album compiled for the election as fraudulent since no polling station election was held.
