The Abuakwa Municipal Assembly has informed chiefs and residents of Old Tafo about a proposed mining operation by Parin Gold Limited in the area, a move that has triggered strong resistance from the community. In response, Daasebre Adusei Peasah IV convened a public gathering at the Awansa Palace, where he firmly declared that no mining activities would be allowed within his jurisdiction.
The Chief emphasized the need to preserve Old Tafo’s environment, heritage, and peace, stressing that the long-term wellbeing of the community is far more important than the short-term financial gains associated with mining. He further cautioned residents and landowners against selling lands to mining companies or their agents, warning that such actions could endanger the collective future of the town.
Residents and local leaders who attended the gathering pledged their support to the Chief’s position, reaffirming their collective resolve to resist mining activities and protect their ancestral lands from environmental degradation.
