Two pastors of The Church of Pentecost as well as other commuters have been robbed by a gang of highway robbers at Asamankese in the Eastern region.
The two Pastors are; Pastor Eliezer Yaw Arkoh-Larbi and Victor Asante Ayim. They were in the company of an elder and a deacon.
The incident occurred Monday, August 9, 2021, on the Patase stretch of the Asamankese to Topease road.
The highway robbers wore reflectors and used torchlights under the disguise of being Police officers, and mounted blockage on the road before robbing their victims at gunpoint.
They robbed their victims in three cars and a Rhino truck off their mobile phones, and cash, and other personal belongings.
According to the two Pentecost Pastors, they went to alight the elder who is the Assistant Area Youth Leader at Ekoso after a meeting.
On their return to Asamankese at about 9:30pm bumped into the robbery attack.
The robbers signaled them to stop however out of fear, Pastor Arkoh-Larbi, who was driving the vehicle attempted to escape but about 150 meters away saw that the road has been blocked with a Rhino truck, taxi, and a motorbike parked in the middle of the road.
In the process, they spotted a flashlight moving in their direction but it quickly went off.
Unknowingly, one of the robbers wielding an AK47 approached their vehicle and instructed them to move towards the scene.
Suddenly, other robbery gang members emerged with guns towards their vehicle and asked them to lie on the floor.
The robbers took the money on them and ransacked the vehicle.
One of them pulled Pastor Arkoh-Larbi and the elder in an attempt to shoot them. However, a vehicle appeared on the scene and reversed forcing the robbers to leave the Pastors to chase the car amidst the firing of gunshots.
The robbers fled into the bush sensing the appearance of the police at the scene.
According to the Public Relations Officer of the Eastern Regional Police Command, DSP Ebenezer Tetteh, the Police patrol team dispatched to the scene retrieved empty cartridges.
He said efforts were underway to arrest the suspects.
