There is tension at Akyem Maase in the Abuakwa South municipality of the Eastern Region on Monday as personnel from the Police Service have taken over the community, mybrytnewsroom.com can confirm.
The tension was a result of a chieftaincy dispute against the installation of a nominee for the position of Queen mother for the community by the chief, Osabarima Adu Asare Bosompem.
According to an eyewitness, the Maase community has been without a chief for the past 60 years until recently when a new one was installed amidst misunderstanding and court rulings.
However, intervention by the Queen mother of Akyem Abuakea Traditional Council ended the dispute when she ordered both factions, that is; the new chief, Osabarima Adu Asare Bosompem and Nana Twum Antwi II, to come together and select someone for the Queen mother position.
The report suggests that the chief, Osabarima Adu Asare Bosompem has allegedly failed to consult the other faction as directed and chosen someone from the neighbouring Asafo community to ascend the throne.
The decision of the chief triggered agitation from both the other faction and the youth of the community which nearly end up in an ugly brawl.
At the time of filing the story, the police had halted the activity of installation awaiting for calm to prevail.
