The Electricity Company of Ghana, ECG, has increased charges for replacing faulty prepaid meters cards and missing cards by 100% and 400% respectively.
The decision took effect on December 15, 2021.
ECG used to charge Ghc10 cedis for both services, however, effective December 15, 2021, replacement of a faulty card was increased to Ghc20 cedis; and replacement of missing card was moved up to Ghc50 cedis.
ECG has not made the public announcement this increment creating confusion at their various offices.
Some customers in Koforidua, the Eastern regional capital for instance accused the ECG officials who were implementing the new charges of attempting to extort from them.
But further checks by Mybrytnewsroom suggest the new charges have been approved by ECG management.
