The Minister for Energy, Dr. Mathew Opoku Prempeh, has urged stakeholders in the petroleum industry to exhibit patriotism and join hands with the NPA to help curb illegal activities in the interest of the state.
He also urged all to embrace innovation to make Ghana a better place for all.
Honorable Opoku Prempeh said this when the Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia launched an innovative Digital Retail Fuel Monitoring System by the National Petroleum Authority (NPA) in Accra.
The Fuel Monitoring System, which allows fuel in OMC tanks across the country to be monitored by NPA, will curb illicit activities in the petroleum downstream, such as unauthorized third party deliveries, fake receipts, smuggling, among others. Under this system, any OMC that receives illegal fuel would be found out.
The system, also known as an Automatic Track Gauging and Forecourt Transaction Control System, will help improve efficiency and profitability in the Petroleum Downtown Sector.
It would also block revenue leakages in the Petroleum Downtown Sector as the state lost an estimated amount of GH₵4.7 billion in tax revenue between 2015 and 2019 in the petroleum distribution value chain.
The system uses 3D Calibex Device to monitor fuel stock, aid in reading fuel tank levels, and monitor sales data 24/7 at the fuel retail outlets.
