Former Assembly Member of Kyebi Ahenebronum electoral area of the Abuakwa South Municipality, Mr Kwame Asiedu Bekoe has been enstooled as Akwansrahene (Visiting Chief) at Kyebi Traditional area in the Eastern region.
Mr Kwame Asiedu whose name has changed to ‘Nana Bafour Kwame Asiedu Bekoe was introduced to Kyebi Traditional Council and swore the oath of allegiance to Okyenhene, Osagyefuo Amoatia Ofori Panyin, elders and the community at Okyenhene’s Palace in a grand style.
At a colorful traditional ceremony, Okyenhene advised the newly installed chief to remain faithful to his new position at the Palace and the community in general.
He urged Bafour Kwame Asiedu Bekoe to use his new appointment to help fight against illegal mining which has encroached the communities.
“Bafour Kwame Asiedu needs to help to fight against galamsey (illegal mining). First, he was a child, now he is grown. Any bad act that he did, I have forgiven him. Team up with the youth and bring success to this community,” Okyenhene urged.
Speaking to the media, Bafour Kwame Asiedu explained “my main obligation as a ‘Visiting Chief’ is to visit and survey the lands of Okyenman. Also to inspect the kind of work people use our lands for.”
Bafour stated that he has been in the work of illegal mining before and as he has become a new chief in the Abuakwa Municipality, he will make sure to put measures down to protect the land of Abuakwa state.
“First I was operating in galamsey but since President Akufo-Addo put a ban on it, I promised Okyenhene to stop and now I can boldly announce my absence in the work of galamsey.”
“There are many uncovered pit all over the communities and since I know many of the guys who are responsible for that act, I will make sure to sermon them to Okyenhene’s Palace,” Bafour stated.
Also, he said, “there are many people who have encroached our lands without a permit and I’ve promised Okyenhene to bring those people before him.”
Bafour Kwame Asiedu pledged to work had to change the negative tag of illegal mining in Abuakwa state and submit to the calls of Okyenhene whenever his service is needed.
