This evening two members of staff posted the formal notice of the Queen’s death on an easel on the railings of Buckingham Palace.
The notice says: “The Queen died peacefully at Balmoral this afternoon.
“The King and The Queen Consort will remain at Balmoral this evening and will return to London tomorrow.”
