Berekum Chelsea have announced the heartbreaking death of forward Dominic Frimpong, who was killed during a violent armed robbery attack on the club’s team bus on Sunday evening.
The tragic incident occurred as the team was returning to Berekum after their Ghana Premier League Matchday 29 clash against FC Samartex at DUN’s Park, where they suffered a 1-0 defeat.
According to the club, the team bus was ambushed along the Bibiani–Goaso road near Ahyiresu. Armed assailants reportedly blocked the road, forcing players and officials to flee into nearby bushes in a desperate attempt to escape.
In the ensuing chaos, several members of the team were injured. Frimpong, aged 20, sustained a gunshot wound to the head. He was rushed to Bibiani Government Hospital but was sadly pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
The Ghana Police Service has launched a manhunt for the attackers, who remain at large. Authorities are also working to locate players and officials who became separated during the assault.
Frimpong had joined Berekum Chelsea on loan from Aduana FC in January, with the deal set to run until the end of the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League season. He made 13 appearances for the club, scoring twice before his untimely passing.
