Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin has stated that he does not take the job of Minority Leader for granted because of the prominent NPP politicians who previously held it.
Speaking of his function in Parliament, he stated that the position has a history that requires accountability and respect for the party’s traditions.
“I sit on a seat that JB Danquah sat on, that J.H. Mensah sat on, that Busia Dombo, Chairman Bonsu, Papa Owusu-Ankomah sat on. I don’t take MPP for granted,” he said in a video shared by 1957 News.
Afenyo-Markin claimed that he was aware of the responsibilities associated with the position since the party’s elders gave him leadership of the legislative caucus from the start.
“The elders of this party did not just get up to say, our son, lead the caucus. From day one, they entrusted me with this position,” he stated.
Although he admitted that he was not flawless, he said that his understanding of the position’s past had affected his demeanor.
“I’m not a perfect guy, but I won’t be reckless. I know what I have to do,” he added.
