Former Kumasi Asante Kotoko midfielder, Richard Mpong has shared that he regrets not getting the opportunity to play for a club abroad in his career despite proving his worth in the local scene.
Mpong, who currently plays for Ghana Premier League side Elmina Sharks in an interview with Angel FM in Accra expressed dissatisfaction over his inability to secure a foreign move.
“The joyous moment in my career was earning a call up into the national team. I played against Chile in a friendly game and interestingly I scored the only goal. In fact, that is the game I have enjoyed in my career”
“After that game, I had a lot of offers but the owner of Medeama, Moses Armah Parker told me to relax. Moses Parker at the time was financially sound and that, if a club wanted to sign a player out of the club then you need to pay more. But the money involve in those offers wasn’t too good for him so I couldn’t move abroad before I left the club”
“I’m still playing actively but as at now it hurts me that I have not got the opportunity to play outside the country looking at the performance I have put up in the local scene,” he said.
