Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh claims that the anger over his comments against Kwame Nkrumah grew when people spread what he characterizes as false reports of his remarks to powerful traditional authorities.
He stated that shortly after the speech, the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, became aware of the situation.
“The day after, he called me and said, ‘When are you coming to Kumasi? Because you have been reported to me,” NAPO disclosed while speaking to students at the University of Ghana in a viral video.
The former Energy Minister claimed that after meeting the Asantehene, he offered to give the original recording of his speech so that the remarks could be evaluated directly rather than by hearsay.
“I said, ‘Your Majesty, I’ll get you the tape so that you hear exactly what I said,” he recalled.
