Regional Managers of the Cocoa Health and Extension Division (CHED) and the Seed Production Division (SPD) participated in a high-level briefing on the Ghana Cocoa Board Bill, 2026, aimed at ensuring that key officials are fully abreast of its provisions and implications for the cocoa sector.
Facilitated by the Public Affairs Department, the engagement provided explanations of key provisions of the Bill, equipping senior officials with accurate and consistent information to support effective communication at the regional, district and grassroots levels—for the benefit of cocoa farmers and industry stakeholders.
Presenting the key provisions of the Bill, Deputy Head of Public Affairs, Mr. Benjamin Larweh, expressed concern about the increasing spread of misinformation and disinformation surrounding the new legislation. He addressed several misconceptions circulating in the media and urged participants to maintain clear, consistent and fact-based messaging to help restore clarity among cocoa farmers and industry partners.
Reinforcing the importance of the engagement, Executive Director of CHED, Dr. Richard Adu Acheampong, noted that the exercise was in the best interest of the cocoa sector. He emphasised that the new legislation seeks to address persistent, human-induced challenges that have historically undermined efforts to build a resilient and sustainable cocoa industry.
The Ashanti Regional Secretary of COCOSHE, Nana Appiah David, welcomed the Bill and called on COCOBOD to intensify public education on its provisions. He observed that some misconceptions are spreading rapidly, leaving farmers and other stakeholders confused. He pledged the support of COCOSHE in sensitizing farmers to ensure effective implementation of the Bill’s provisions for a sustainable cocoa industry.
The meeting was also attended by the Deputy Executive Directors of CHED and SPD, alongside other senior officials.
