Medeama SC midfielder, Kwasi Donsu has called on the Ghana Football Association to provide support for local clubs in order to secure better sponsorship in the quest to rebrand Ghana football.
The mass exodus of players in the domestic top-flight league has affected the standard of the Ghana Premier League and also the performance of Ghanaian teams in Africa.
Most players who turn out to perform well join other clubs on the continent or move to Europe for greener pastures.
Ghana has been ranked as the second exporter of footballers (311 players) by a survey conducted by CIES report in 2020.
It could be recalled that captain of Medeama SC captain, Joseph Tetteh Zutah passionately appealed to the Ghana Football Association to take a critical look at player salaries in the bid to get rid of the rampant player exodus in the country.
Kwasi Donsu reacting to his skipper plea backed him and called on the nation’s football governing body to assists clubs in order to secure lucrative deals so they can pay with better salaries.
Speaking to S.K Ntim of Bryt FM, Donsu said, “I have travelled outside Ghana before and I think we have a lot of qualities than the whites. Our problem has always been money. Had it not been money I don’t think a player plying his trade in Ghana can travel to countries like Tanzania, Togo and others”
“If we are able to brand the game well no player will travel for greener pastures and that will help improve our game. So I think it is about time the leadership of the FA consider the well-being of the players because we are the main architect”
“The FA must seek for good sponsorship for the clubs. I believe if the clubs get sponsors they will be able to pay us well. By doing this we can do away with player exodus and I trust other players around the world can also travel to Ghana to participate in our league.”
