The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Eastern Regional branch has described as ‘abysmal’ the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government’s realization of its 2016 manifesto promises to Region and has rated the government 14.28% on the delivery of campaign promises in the region.
According to the Eastern Regional Branch of the biggest opposition party National Democratic Congress (NDC), President Akufo Addo has failed woefully on his promises to the Region (14.28% delivered) and that the few regular projects are being done selectively and discriminatory.
This came to light when the party held its maiden edition of the Eastern: “Efie Nye” series at the Regional Head office in Koforidua.
The regional communication officer, Darlas William Ampomah averred that the Eastern Region is the home of the president who doubles as the flag bearer of the new patriotic party but has failed to fulfill his promises to the people.
He said expectations were that the region would witness unprecedented development if no other region did. Unfortunately, the situation in the region can be summarized as, “Home no Good” (in Twi, we say Eastern “Efie Nye”.
Additionally, he said Akufo Addo and the NPP government has woefully failed the Eastern Region and has only delivered or partially delivered just a paltry 14.28% (3 out of the 21) of the promises they made to the good people of the region in 2016 general election.
He added that even the abysmal 14.28% of promises delivered, its deployment was discriminatory and selective targeted to benefit a few in the Eastern Region because a major part of the Region has been neglected.
These are some of the failed promises they claimed,
One district one factory in all the 32 MDAs in the region; over 18 Districts are yet to see any semblance of a factory, whilst others are existing factory which NPP has failed this promise, page 10 in their manifesto.
Develop irrigation schemes in the Afram Plains, no work done, failed, page 17 in their manifesto.
A quality and affordable housing for all under the “housing all strategy”, nothing has been done about housing so far, failed, page 23 in their manifesto.
Establish a Regional Technology Park in the Region to expand the research and development capabilities, no regional technology park has been established, failed, page 29 in their manifesto.
Construct a suspension bridge on the Afram River to connect Kwahu South to the Kwahu Afram Plains, nothing has been done, Akufo Addo promised them during their campaign tour.
Total promises to the good people of the Eastern Region were 21, 3 has been delivered, partially delivered, or in progress, hence the NDC has score Akufo Addo government 14.29%.
