The Member of Parliament for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) of Yendi constituency, Honourable Alhaji Mohammad Habibu Tijani has commended the president for coming to the aid of the people of Yendi.
The president has commenced a water project in Yendi just yesterday because he believes in the saying that “Water is life”.
According to him, the water project is a very big relief for the people as their struggle for good and portable water has come to an end and that is a big stepping stone for NPP as the country marches into elections on December 7 this year.
In an interview on Dadi FM 101.1, with Abena Pokuaa Ahwenee, he disclosed that the people of Yendi have been going through water shortage for the past15 years now.
He added that anytime, they experience a reduction in water intake during the dry season because it gets so bad to the extent that pipes are closed down for a number of months.
He explained that when this happens, the people are not able to access portable water and they solely depend on borehole water therefore the people of Yendi are really excited for the project.
He asserted that the Yendi water project is the biggest project the president has embarked and constructed for the people of Yendi.
According to him, the people of Yendi were very excited to receive the President because the president has resolved the Dagbon conflict which was also one issue that was worrying the people of Yendi and Dagbon.
He went to state that the people of Yendi have also enjoyed youth employment from some policies of the president which are, the free SHS policy, the school feeding as well as planting for food and jobs initiative.
They have benefited from road construction projects and most importantly the water project which affected the women and children.
He explained that during the dry season students used to walk long distances to queue for water for hours and most often returned home with just a bucket or can of water.
“People were so happy when they heard the president was going to cut the sod for the water project to commence”
The source of the water will be from the Oti River and most communities will be benefiting from the water project.
