A 22-year-old motorbike rider has been sentenced to 18 years imprisonment in hard for assault and stealing an unregistered motorcycle valued at Gh¢3,200.00 at Takurase by the Asamankese Circuit Court.
David Akwandoh, the accused pleaded guilty when he was charged for stealing and assault in the court presided over by His Honour Abubakari Abass Adams.
Chief Inspector Susan Ayaric, the Prosecutor told the court that the complainant is Rigobert Agyei, an 18-year-old student in Suabe and the accuse also live at Wenchi, all in the Denkyembour District.
The prosecutor said the Complainant was driving the motorbike on 28th February 2021 around 1:30 pm from Wenchi to Suabe where he met the accused on the road.
The prosecution said the accused person boarded the motorcycle together with the complainant to take him to deliver a palm wine to a friend and on the road, the accused poured pepper on the complainant’s face.
According to the prosecution statement, the accused managed to beat the complainant and took the motorcycle away, the accused person was later sent to Saint Dominic Hospital in Akwatia for treatment.
On 3rd March 2021, the accused was spotted on the motorcycle and was chased and arrested and sent to court for prosecution.
