George Opare Addo, the Minister for Youth Development and Empowerment, has advised young Ghanaians not to let momentary setbacks or unemployment sap their confidence, arguing that challenging circumstances shouldn’t determine their destiny.
In a viral video, the minister spoke to young people, acknowledging the difficulties that many of them encounter but urging them to maintain optimism and keep pursuing their objectives.
“My brothers and sisters, your story is not finished. Your background does not undermine your destination,” he said.
Opare Addo emphasized that short-term setbacks should not be interpreted as long-term defeat and advised against allowing spells of unemployment to foster a sense of despair.
“Do not allow unemployment to steal your confidence. Do not allow temporary failures to convince you that you were born to fail,” he stated.
He also warned young people against measuring their success by what they see on social media, arguing that online lifestyles often do not reflect reality.
“A lot of us research social media and look at people’s fake stories on social media and we feel that our future is lost. Please, do not allow settings to destroy you,” he said.
