The Electoral Commission (EC) has disputed claims that about 60% of security personnel who applied to vote in the special voting exercise cannot find their names in the voting list hence may not take part in the exercise slated on December 1, 2020.
Dr. Serebour Quarcoo, the Director of the Electoral Services at the EC explained that the Special Voting list includes other categories of persons and not limited to personnel of the security services
“I don’t think it is true. I don’t know where he got his figures. We have 109,552 people on the special voters’ list and this list includes the media and the security services so how many security services people do we have there?” he said in an interview with Citi FM in Accra on Thursday.
Special voting is reserved for voters who as a result of their duties on Election day (December 7) will be unable to vote at the polling stations where they registered on the day of the election.
