One month after the devastating floods of 29 June 2026, the Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Hon. Ahmed Ibrahim, has undertaken a working visit to assess progress on measures initiated by Government to address the sanitation challenges that followed the disaster.
The visit forms part of Government’s continued efforts to ensure the effective implementation of the President’s directives, including the two-day national clean-up exercise and urgent measures to accelerate the evacuation of waste from affected communities.
As part of the response, five of the six waste transfer stations established to support the evacuation of accumulated waste are now operational, with the Malam station awaiting the completion of its access road.
The Minister is also assessing the broader sanitation situation on the ground to identify remaining challenges and ensure that the interventions introduced after the floods are delivering the intended results.
The findings from the exercise will inform further consultations with the Council of State and the Presidency as Government continues to strengthen Ghana’s sanitation systems and build resilience against future emergencies.
