The Moderator Rt. Rev. Prof. Obiri Yeboah Mante says the Presbyterian Church of Ghana acknowledges the legitimacy of complaints about corruption, economic hardship, and perceived miscarriage of justice in the court and other perceived or real deficits in the management of the state which government should pay attention to address.
He also said the behavior of the political class seems to be maturing the cynicism about the viability of democracy in the country adding that the extreme political partisanship sometimes laced with toxic ethnicity and cronyism is driving many descent and competent persons out of national life given the field for persons whose intentions are unpatriotic.
“It is not all the perceptions about corruption and high places may be real, however, it may be unwise for some of our political leaders to be careless in their appearances as appearances feed into perceptions and fuel rumors”.
The Moderator warns that “if we make our democracy appears like a deliberate arrangement whereby rival groups of the elites of the country cease the apparatus of the state in fixed cycles of eight years to share the common resources among themselves and cronies, the ordinary citizens will feel bad”
He said this when addressing the closing ceremony of the 22 General Assembly Meeting of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana at Kwahu Abetifi in the Eastern region Saturday, August 13, 2022.
Therefore the Presbyterian Church of Ghana appeals to all sections of the nation especially our lead political party, and opinion leaders of our ethnic and religious groups who aim to promote various courses to show maturity and be thoughtful in their approaches.
