Mr. Kwame Agyeman-Budu, the Managing Director of ECG, in a brief remark, said anyone who provided useful information leading to the arrest of a power thief will receive six percent of the bill generated from the culprit.
He said those who will be caught in the illegal act shall be surcharged and made to pay for the power consumed before being reconnected to the grid.
Mr. Kwame Agyeman-Budu, said this at the unveiling of a Mobile App, dubbed: “ECG Power” to enable customers to buy electricity and pay bills via the mobile money platforms at their optimal convenience.
The manager added that those who were unable to pay outright were given up to three months to pay for the power stolen and said the mobile app would improve payment of bills, fault detection, reduce the cost of power and ultimately enhance customer satisfaction.
The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has surcharged Mohammed Small Scale Mining Company GH¢1.5 million for illegal power connection at the mining site at Tarkwa in the Western Region.
The arrest and punishment of Mohammed Small Mining Company on Friday, January 31, followed the recent declaration of war by ECG on power theft in its operational areas.
