The Parliamentary Select Committee on Roads and Transport has expressed satisfaction with the progress of works on the 34km Ofankor – Nsawam stretch of the Accra – Kumasi Highway and the construction of the Obetsebi Lamptey Interchange Phase 2.
The Committee as part of its oversight responsibility paid a working visit to inspect the progress of construction works on these projects.
The Euro 87m Obetsebi Lamptey Interchange Phase 2 project being executed by QG Construction UK Ltd has achieved 77% completion and is expected to be commissioned in the first quarter of 2023.
Whiles the $330m Ofankor-Nsawam project which started in July this year, is expected to be completed in 24 months.
The Chairman of the committee Hon. Kennedy Osei Nyarko commended the contractors for the good work done and expressed satisfaction with the quality of the work.
“Maripoma Enterprise Ltd, working on the Ofankor-Nsawam road is a local contractor. But see the great work been done.
This is a clear manifestation that local contractors have the capacity to execute huge contracts works when given the opportunity and support”.
Hon. Osei Nyarko admonished indigenous contractors to form consortiums to bid for government contracts of huge magnitude.
He also urged the government to make a deliberate effort to build the capacity of local contractors to position them to be able to compete at the highest level in the construction industry.
