Sanitation guards popularly known as “Saman -Saman” are agitating over the non-payment of 19 months’ salaries due them.
The Ministry of Sanitation and Water Resources in July 2019, redeployed sanitation guards, popularly known as “Saman-saman” in the metropolitan, municipal, and district assemblies (MMDAs) to strengthen the enforcement of sanitation by-laws. The deployment was done in partnership with Zoomlion Ghana Limited.
Addressing the media in Kintampo in the Bono East Region, the affected workers from Kintampo North and South Municipality and District respectively disclosed that, they have been working for the past 19 months without payment of their monthly stipends.
The situation they say is affecting their marriages as they are unable to live up to their responsibilities at home.
The leader of the agitating workers, Obed Tiyajawan told the media that,” we are paid Ghc100 each per month yet such meager amount has been in arrears for the 19 months”
They, therefore, appealed to President Akufo Addo to intervene to ensure that their arrears are paid by the end of this month (November) which failed to do so would fuel them to advance their agitations.
