The selection of developmental projects to be executed in communities by the various Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) across the country has been described as unfair.
Osagyefo Amoatia Ofori Panin, the Okyenhene, has stressed the need to involve traditional leaders in decision-making, especially in terms of development planning.
He was of the view that issuing mining permits should not be done by the Central government as chiefs need to play a major important role before leasing lands to miners.
Speaking at a visit of the Eastern Regional minister to his palace at Kyebi, Osagyefo Amoatia Ofori Panin called for a change in the country’s constitution to ensure communities with national assets are compensated.
According to him, it is the only way to ensure the country is well developed holistically.
Meanwhile, the Eastern Regional Minister, Mr. Seth Acheampong spoke about the negative impact of activities of illegal miners and pledged to deal with it with much commitment.
He assured the people of the region of his effort to ensure it gets its fair share of developmental projects it deserves.
