Several passengers sustained injuries after a VIP bus collided with a Kia truck loaded with yams at the Osino Clinic junction along the Kumasi–Accra Highway in the Eastern Region on Tuesday morning.
The crash occurred at about 4:30 a.m., prompting a swift response from emergency personnel and bystanders, who assisted in rescuing the injured from the wreckage.
Preliminary reports suggest that the driver of the Kia truck may have dozed off while driving, causing the vehicle to veer into the lane of the oncoming VIP bus, resulting in the collision.
Although no deaths were recorded, several passengers suffered varying degrees of head and bodily injuries. The injured were rushed to nearby health facilities, including the Osino Clinic, where they are receiving treatment.
The accident caused a temporary disruption to traffic on the busy highway as emergency responders and police worked to clear the scene and restore the free flow of vehicles.
Police have commenced investigations to establish the exact cause of the crash.
Road safety experts continue to urge commercial drivers to avoid driving while fatigued, particularly during the early hours of the morning, when the risk of drowsiness-related accidents is higher.
