An aspiring member of parliament (Independent) in the Fanteakwa south constituency in the Eastern Region, Mr. Stephen Ayisi Gyan has accused incumbent Member of Parliament and parliamentary candidate for NPP Hon. Kofi Okyere Agyekum popularly known in the constituency as ‘Arafat’ of using his common fund meant for development to bribe delegates that made him see victory in the recent NPP primaries.
According to the former first vice chairman for the governing New Patriotic Party NPP of the Fanteakwa South constituency, the incumbent MP gave GH₵2,000 each to 400 delegates, approximately making eight billion old cedis through the MP common fund meant for development and social interventions.
“Show Boy” as well known in the constituency has therefore challenged the incumbent MP to name just one project in any community he has used the MP’s common fund for.
Mr Stephen Ayisi Gyan believes that the incumbent Member of Parliament for the constituency; Hon. Kofi Okyere Agyekum is not doing his best for the constituency and therefore needs to be changed.
Speaking to Bryt FM reporter Evans Boateng the former first vice chairman revealed that the constituency needs development but with the current Member of Parliament, the constituency would be stagnant and will never see positive growth.
Moreover, ‘Show Boy’ added that he wished to have contested the seat on the ticket of the NPP but in his two attempts, he lost at primaries. He however did not partake in the just ended primaries but after the delegates re-elected the incumbent MP, he realized the MP will rather retard the progress of the constituency when given the nod to lead the constituency for another 4 years.
Mr Stephen Ayisi Gyan therefore has pledged to create jobs for the unemployed youth his constituency.
The former astute member of the ruling NPP has been the vice chairman for the fanteakwa South constituency for 8 years before taking a decision to contest on the independent ticket.
