Water Resource Scientists and a Lecturer at UESD, Professor Gibrilla Abass, has emphasized that, some diseases we experience today are from illegal mining and the introduction of heavy metals into our water systems.
Speaking on Bryt Adekye Mu Nsem with Kwamina Sam Biney, what we are seeing now could be a result of that, but there is a need to invest in research to solve this problem for us.
“Some of the diseases we experience today are from the contaminated water that we drink which is a result of illegal mining and heavy metals they introduce in our water”. He said.
According to him, many studies have been done, but they are scattered, and we need a comprehensive, coordinated study to effectively address the issue of Galamsey.
He said that, we know Galamsey has introduced this heavy metal in our water and these metals have effects on our human health but how do we link that to the Galamsey that is causing, that’s why I’m calling for coordinated and comprehensive research.
