The Chief of Asamama, Osabarima Okuampa Asamoah Dekyem, has appealed to parents to prioritise the education and welfare of their children, particularly young girls, to secure a brighter future for the community.
Speaking at a community programme at Asamama, Osabarima Okuampa Asamoah Dekyem said the town still has many developmental challenges, with education remaining one of the most pressing concerns. He expressed worry over the increasing number of children, especially young girls, who drop out of school at around the age of 12 due to the effects of illegal mining (galamsay) and other social challenges.
He used the occasion to urge parents to take greater responsibility for the upbringing of their children, stressing that young girls play a vital role in the future of every society. According to him, caring for and educating children will ensure the continuity and progress of future generations, while parental neglect could lead to serious social problems in the years ahead.
Also speaking at the event, Baffour Ofori Boateng Agyapong, Akamuhene of Akyem Asamama, assured residents of his commitment to supporting initiatives that will promote development in the community. He said he has several plans aimed at improving the lives of the people and is determined to ensure they are successfully implemented.
Baffour Ofori Boateng Agyapong explained that his role as Akamuhene is to foster unity and togetherness among the people, offer sound advice to those who need guidance, and support community development efforts. He noted that whenever community committees come up with beneficial initiatives, the traditional leadership will provide the necessary advice and support to ensure their success.
He also appealed to commercial and private motorcycle riders to observe traffic regulations and ride responsibly to reduce road accidents and protect lives within the community.
