The Tufuhene of Adweso-Akuapem and Founder of Okuapeman Global, Nana Bekoe Dankwa, has called on custodians of the Akuapem Traditional Area to use this year’s Odwira Festival as a platform to promote and preserve the Akuapem language.

Speaking during a special meeting with the Member of Parliament for Okere Constituency, Hon. Daniel Nana Addo Kenneth, at Parliament House, Nana Bekoe Dankwa commended the MP for his dedication to the development of the constituency, both as a former District Chief Executive and now as a Member of Parliament.
He, however, expressed disappointment over what he described as the lack of deliberate efforts to protect and promote the Akuapem language, warning that it could face extinction if urgent measures are not taken.
The traditional leader stressed that the Akuapem language remains a vital part of the identity and heritage of the Akuapem people and must be preserved for future generations.
As part of efforts to promote the dialect, Nana Bekoe Dankwa suggested that radio stations that broadcast in Twi should incorporate the Akuapem dialect into their programming to increase its visibility and usage.
He further noted that the upcoming Odwira Festival, which coincides with the bicentennial celebration of Akuapem, should focus on issues of cultural significance, including the preservation of Akuapem traditions and values.
Nana Bekoe Dankwa also emphasized the need to bridge the gap between the older and younger generations, saying the elderly serve as custodians of knowledge, history, and wisdom that can help guide the youth and strengthen the unity and development of Akuapem.
He urged all stakeholders to support initiatives aimed at safeguarding the language and culture to ensure their survival for generations to come.
