MTN Ghana has introduced a new Self-Service SIM Swap feature aimed at reducing fraud and making SIM replacement easier for customers who loose their SIM cards.
The New Service available through the MyMTN App allows customers to recover their mobile numbers without relying on agents, a move expected to eliminate unnecessary stress and curb SIM Swap-related fraud.
Speaking Bryt Fm News correspondent Eric Owusu Amponsah at the launch held at the MTN Kasoa Area Office today, the South West Business Senior Manager of MTN Ghana in Central Region, Prince Owusu Nyarko said the initiative forms part of the company’s efforts to protect customers and improve service delivery.
According to him, the initiative addresses frequent complaints from customers who sometimes encounter scams, overcharging, or long waiting times when attempting to replace lost SIM Cards through agents.
“This New Technology is designed to reduce incidents where customers are scammed or overcharged in the process of swapping their SIM cards.
It also removes the stress and long queues customers often experience,” he explained.
Under the New System, customers who lose their SIM Cards must first visit the nearest MTN office to obtain a replacement SIM card.
After receiving the replacement, they will link the lost mobile number to the serial number of the New SIM and complete the SIM Swap process independently using the MyMTN App or by dialing short code 1333#.
Mr. Prince believes the self-service initiative will enhance Security, improve convenience, and Empower Customers to manage their mobile services more efficiently.
He also encouraged subscribers to download and update the MyMTN App to access the New Functionality and other digital services offered by the telecom provider.
