Acting Rent Commissioner, Frederick Opoku has warned landlords in the country not to take advantage and breach the law by charging exorbitant for their houses.
Speaking on Bryt Adekye Mu Nsem with Kwamina Sam Biney, he stated that H.E John Dramani Mahama made it clear that we have a law, but because rent is expensive, it doesn’t mean you should take advantage and cash out.
“No matter how expensive houses are, you shouldn’t take advantage and breach the law, houses are expensive, but that doesn’t mean take advantage and Cashout”. He explained
According to Mr. Opoku, houses are scarce now, and whenever supply is low, demand is high, so there will definitely be a market system in which price controls determine the availability of supply.
He said that, as far as some are not there, there is a shortage, and whenever there is a shortage people will cash out.
He added that, President Mahama was only trying to prompt Ghanaians that we have laws in Ghana and everyone should tow the law because we are coming to work with law in Ghana, and he believes that if everyone obeys the law, both Landlords and Tenants will be at peace.
