There is heightened tension at Ayirebi in Akyemansa district of Eastern after some thugs allegedly hired by the disputed Chief of Ayirebi Nana Asare Duodu Gyimah III attacked pallbearers and ransacked grave of a royal family member due to chieftaincy dispute.
The chief reportedly placed injunction on the burial of the deceased for about a year and half ago but after many legal battle the injunction was overturned during an appeal at the Koforidua High court which paved way for the burial but the embattled chief resisted the burial unleashing violence on the pallbearers and decimated the grave .
Currently the National Security and Eastern South Police command are pursuing the suspects.
The Koforidua High Court has also issued a bench warrant for the arrest of the chief.
Meanwhile report indicate that, the chief and the funeral committee at Ayirebi have locked the community center where a 40 -day celebration is scheduled to take place tomorrow for another royal who has also been kept in mortuary for long period due to the dispute.
Thugs with arms are maraunding around the Ayirebi community to prevent the opposing faction from going ahead to celebrate the 40 days.
However ,Sources indicate that, the Ghana Police Service is likely to deployed dozens of police personnel to Ayirebi on Saturday to forestall any potential crash.
