Dr. Bossman Asare, the Deputy Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC) responsible for Corporate Affairs, has resigned, effective July 31, 2026.
Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the government spokesperson, made the statement on Monday, June 15, during the Government Accountability Series.
Additionally, he stated that Samuel Tettey, the EC’s Deputy Chairperson in charge of Operations, had retired.
Mr. Kwakye Ofosu claims that Dr. Asare stated in his resignation letter that he was leaving to return to academics and carry on with his job at the University of Ghana.
He added that Dr. Asare thanked the President and Ghanaians for giving him the chance to work at the Electoral Commission.
The procedures to replace the two officials have already started, Mr. Kwakye Ofosu continued. He revealed that the Council of State had received a nominee for review.
He clarified that an official statement regarding Mr. Tettey’s replacement will be made following the Council of State’s review, and that Dr. Bossman Asare’s vacancy will be filled through a different procedure.
It is anticipated that the Electoral Commission will eventually release more information about the changeover.
