Gomoa Central MP A Plus has advocated for younger individuals to rule Ghana, suggesting that the country should avoid electing presidential candidates over the age of 60.
Speaking at a Facebook Live session, he stated that Ghana’s long-standing infrastructure difficulties necessitate a new generation of leadership.
“Enough of these old people. Ebi them dey make water dey enter your house. For so many years they no fit control the system; they lef the system like that,” he said.
He continued, “Bring something modern, something new. Fu*k this whole politics thing. Anyone over 60 years old should not be voted in as president. In fact, they shouldn’t even be considered as a presidential candidate.”
“I am telling you the truth, the old people cannot build this country.”
Additionally, A Plus asserted that he had overheard conversations within the National Democratic Congress regarding the potential for National Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketiah to run for president in the future.
He said that if chosen, Asiedu Nketiah would be around 72 years old when he could take office. He added that a president of Ghana may step down at the age of 81 if the country adopted a five-year presidential term.
He noted that Ghana should refrain from handing over power to another leader in his seventies if President Mahama is successful in carrying out significant development initiatives during his present term. A Plus also held elder politicians in charge of succeeding administrations accountable for their inability to address persistent infrastructural issues, including flooding.
