The Dagbon Council of Kingmakers has banned the use of live ammunition during the third-day funeral rites of the late Yaa Naa Abukari II.
The directive was announced following an emergency meeting at the Gbewaa Palace in Yendi amid concerns over injuries caused by celebratory gunfire at traditional events.
The council warned that anyone found carrying or using live ammunition during the funeral rites will be arrested. It urged all mourners to help ensure a peaceful, safe and dignified ceremony, noting that the late Yaa Naa did not support the use of live ammunition during traditional events.
The third-day funeral rites are scheduled forThursday, 16 July 2026.
