The Gyasehene of the New Juaben Traditional Area, Twumasi Dankwah, has broken ground for the construction of a new police station at Nyamekrom in the New Juaben South Municipality of the Eastern Region.
The project, which is expected to significantly strengthen security in the community, will provide the Ghana Police Service with a dedicated facility to support law enforcement operations and improve its response to crime and other security-related incidents.
The construction of the police station forms part of broader efforts by traditional authorities, the municipal assembly and other stakeholders to improve security infrastructure and ensure residents of Nyamekrom and surrounding communities have better access to policing services.
The new facility is also expected to increase police visibility and presence in the area, thereby contributing to the prevention of crime and the promotion of public safety.
Speaking at a groundbreaking, sod-cutting and fundraising ceremony held at Nyamekrom, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for New Juaben South, Hon. Ransford Owusu Boakye, pledged the Assembly’s support towards the completion of the project.
He said the Assembly would work with the traditional authorities and other stakeholders to ensure that the project receives the necessary support to bring it to completion.
The MCE’s commitment is expected to provide further impetus to the initiative, particularly as the community seeks to improve its security infrastructure and create a safer environment for residents, businesses and visitors.
The Nyamekrom Hene and Nkosuohene (Development Chief) of the New Juaben Traditional Council, Nana Kwame Nnuro Agyapong II, also expressed his support for the project, stressing its importance to the development and security of the community.
According to him, the establishment of a police station in Nyamekrom would help reduce incidents of violence and other security challenges in the area.
He noted that improved police presence would not only assist in preventing crime but would also give residents greater confidence in the security system and encourage closer collaboration between the community and law enforcement agencies.
The traditional authorities have therefore called on residents, businesses, corporate organisations and other stakeholders to contribute towards the successful completion of the project.
The construction of the Nyamekrom Police Station is expected to become an important addition to the community’s development infrastructure and play a key role in strengthening security and promoting peace in Nyamekrom and neighbouring communities.
