The Cocoa Health and Extension Division (CHED),in collaboration with GIZ, has opened a two-day Stakeholder Engagement Workshop to review and finalize the 8th edition of the Farmer Business School (FBS) Climate Smart Training Materials, to be used for training cocoa farmers across the country.
With the core objectives of enhancing farmers competencies in managing their cocoa farms as profitable businesses, the FBS curriculum equips cocoa farmers with essential business management skills including record keeping, financial management and basic accounting.
The 8th edition has now been revised to incorporate climate-smart agriculture practices, giving farmers a deeper understanding of climate change adaptation and mitigation, as well as environmental management practices that promote sustainable cocoa production and strengthen resilience.
Delivering the keynote address, Executive Director of CHED, Dr. Richard Adu Acheampong, underscored the importance of the FBS concept, particularly the infusion of climate-smart cocoa farming techniques into the curriculum. He commended the continued support of GIZ and key partners, including Rainforest Alliance and FairTrade, in strengthening Ghana’s cocoa sector.
Over the two days, participants drawn from research institutions, development partners, farmer organizations and relevant government agencies will work to validate the technical content, relevance and practicality of the training modules, and finalize the materials for rollout to cocoa farming communities nationwide.
