Eighteen African nationals allegedly operating a network marketing business have been implicated in an alleged abduction and physical abuse of women at the CMB Workshop community in Ntano Electoral Area in New Juaben North in the Eastern Region.
The male suspects are alleged to have held hostage at least five female victims in a self-contained house, where they were reportedly subjected to physical abuse.
Residents in the area say they had repeatedly heard women crying and making distress calls from inside the apartments, particularly during the evening, but were unable to access the premises because the property is gated.
The suspects can either speak English or Twi making it difficult to communicate with.
According to the residents, their concerns prompted them to report the matter to the Municipal Chief Executive for New Juaben North, Isaac Adongo, who subsequently informed the police.
The police reportedly intervened and arrested the suspects in connection with the allegations.
However, residents claim the suspects and the alleged victims were later returned to the same building that evening because of inadequate cell space to accommodate the suspects.
The development has raised concerns among residents about the safety of the women and the circumstances under which the suspects and alleged victims were reportedly returned to the premises.
Police are yet to publicly confirm the reported arrests, the circumstances surrounding the alleged abductions and abuse, or the claims that the suspects and victims were returned to the same building.
