The community mining initiative by the government is expected to employ most unemployed youth across the country, according to the minister responsible for Science, Technology and Innovation.
Professor Kwabena Frimpong Boateng was of the notion that the new face of mining being introduced is to do away with individuals taking over mining without benefiting greater percentage of the populace.
At a ceremony to commission the Nkonteng Community mining project at Kobeng near Toase in the Atwima Nwabiagya district of the Ashanti region.
According to the minister, the new mode of mining would get the people involved, that is, chiefs, opinion leaders as well as religious leaders on board to have healthy mining.
Professor Frimpong Boateng, also emphasized, on government’s commitment to ensure mining is done as compared to the earlier illegal mining (galamsey) activities.
Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for the area, Michael Awuku on his part, commended President Akufo-Addo for his vision to the development of the country indicating, a lot has been achieved so far by the government.
He called on the people to always stand by the government as a lot is being done to make livelihood better for all Ghanaians.
